From Menyanthes to Phrea: Pastas with a complete interface

Pastas in Dawaco Phrea™: a complete graphical interface with your map alongside. No programming.

For many years Menyanthes was a widely used tool for groundwater time-series analysis in the Netherlands, at water boards, provinces, municipalities, water utilities and nature-area managers. The freely available version of Menyanthes is no longer supported. If you worked with Menyanthes, you may be looking for a future-proof way of working.

Pastas continues the time-series method behind Menyanthes as open source, but it is driven by Python scripts. Dawaco Phrea™ gives Pastas a complete graphical workspace: you choose a well and Phrea builds the model on your own measurements, with precipitation and evaporation included. You see which part of the level comes from precipitation, evaporation or an abstraction. Model and well are linked to the map both ways. Every model exports to Pastas’ own file format, so you can always continue in Python.

Time-series analysis with Pastas is available from October 2026, as a module of Dawaco Phrea™.

Provincie Fryslân: more than 180,000 BRO messages, almost the complete history in the registry

Can a province deliver its wells and measurements to the Dutch Key Register of the Subsurface (BRO) step by step? In 2019 Fryslân chose to run a pilot with our team (then Waterlabs).

The chain was built step by step. First the well data (GMW) went to the BRO, then the corrections to data delivered earlier, and finally the groundwater levels (GLD).

The result: more than 180,000 messages to the national registry. Not only the measurements of recent years, but almost the complete history of the network is now in the BRO, open for anyone to consult.

This story dates from before Dawaco Phrea™. The BRO knowledge built up here now lives in Dawaco Phrea.

From the BRO implementation team to Dawaco Phrea: more than 100 data holders helped

Which data belong in the BRO, how do you deliver them, and what do you do when the register and your own records drift apart? Since 2019 our team has worked on exactly that from within the BRO implementation team, helping more than 100 data holders (bronhouders) with their BRO delivery.

That practice grew up in three systems: Dawaco, Datalab and BROLab. Since the end of 2022 they have been under one roof, and in Phrea they come together. The whole BRO chain sits in one system: deliver, retrieve, compare your records with the BRO, and correct. You never have to keep track yourself of what changed after a delivery.

GMW and GLD as standard; GMN, GAR and FRD as an add-on module.

Your well history reaches the BRO the way the BRO expects it, and comes back again.
