Where your monitoring data is stored, who can access it, what the AI assistant does and does not do, and how we protect the original measurement. Only controls that are built into the product.
Security you can verify for yourself
Groundwater data underpins permits, submissions to the Dutch subsurface registry (BRO) and decisions about drinking-water abstraction. Whoever manages that data must be able to say exactly where it is stored, who may see it and what happens when someone changes a measurement.
That is why this page describes what Dawaco Phrea™, the new version of Dawaco, actually does: where it runs, how AI processing is contained, how access works and how the platform protects your time series from damage. What is described here is built into the product.
Where your data is stored
You decide where Phrea runs: in our cloud environment or in your own. As SaaS your data is stored in the EU; on your own server you choose the location. AI processing always takes place inside the EU.
- As SaaS on Microsoft Azure in Europe
- We host Phrea for you on Microsoft Azure, West Europe region. Your staff work in the browser, with nothing to install on their workstations.
- Or on your own server
- Does your data have to stay inside your own infrastructure? Then Phrea runs on a server in your own environment.
- Your data stays in the EU
- Both storage and processing take place inside the European Union. That includes the AI assistant.
- A separate database for every organisation
- Your data sits in its own database, separate from that of other organisations. Passwords and keys are never stored as plain text. Scientific calculations also run isolated within the platform.
Where your data is stored should not be a question you have to ask after the quote. The answer is here, in public.
AI under your control
The AI assistant is a tool you switch on or off yourself. It works with your data inside the EU and does not take over the hydrologist’s judgement.
- Processing inside the EU
- Questions and answers are processed inside the EU; a user cannot change that.
- On or off per module and per user
- You decide in which modules AI is available and which users work with it. Nobody has to use the assistant who does not want to.
- Usage limits per user
- Every user has a usage limit for the assistant.
- Answers from your own data, with sources
- The assistant answers from your own measurements, with charts, maps and cited sources. Every answer comes with a source and a caveat. The judgement stays with the hydrologist.
- Never used to train AI
- Your data is never used to train AI. Not by us and not by our AI provider. Your measurements and your questions to the assistant are used only to answer you.
Who has access
Access is organised per role and per organisation. Someone who only needs to look cannot change anything.
- Read, write and administer
- Every user gets a role. A read role lets you consult data; writing and administration are separate roles you grant deliberately.
- Roles per module
- Modules add roles of their own. For example, you decide separately who may send submissions to the BRO.
- Several organisations, separate data
- Work for several organisations? You only ever work in the data of the organisation you choose.
Your time series stays intact
In Phrea, integrity is not a setting but a promise: your measurement stays your measurement, and we never fill in a value that is not there.
- The raw measurement is always kept
- Whatever you correct, the original measurement remains available. You can always see what was actually measured.
- Every correction with a reason, always reversible
- Every edit records who made it and why. Whatever has been corrected, you can undo when you need to.
- No silent overwrites
- Two colleagues working on the same data at the same time never overwrite each other unnoticed.
- Refuse rather than corrupt
- We never fill in a value that is not there. When information is missing, that stays visible instead of being quietly filled in.

Can Phrea run on our own server?
Yes. You choose between SaaS and an installation on your own server.
Do we have to use the AI assistant?
No. AI can be switched on or off per module and per user, and every user has a usage limit. Processing takes place inside the EU.
Is our data used to train AI?
Your data is never used to train AI. Not by us and not by our AI provider. Your measurements and your questions to the assistant are used only to answer you.
What happens if two colleagues edit the same record at the same time?
Concurrent edits are monitored: two colleagues never overwrite each other unnoticed.
Is the original measurement kept when someone makes a correction?
Yes. The raw measurement is always kept. Every correction carries a reason and can be undone.
