Sectors
For everyone responsible for groundwater and ecology
Drinking-water companies, provinces, water boards, municipalities, regional environmental agencies and consultancies work with Dawaco. Each of them carries a different responsibility. This page sets out, sector by sector, what is at stake and what Dawaco Phrea™, the new version of Dawaco, and our team do about it.

Six kinds of organisation, six different questions. The answer always comes from the same team, with thirty years of domain knowledge behind it.

Did your organisation work with Menyanthes?
Pastas in Dawaco Phrea™: a complete graphical interface with your map alongside. No programming. For water boards, provinces, municipalities, drinking-water companies and consultancies.
The freely available version of Menyanthes is no longer supported. If you worked with Menyanthes, you may be looking for a future-proof way of working. Pastas continues the time-series method behind Menyanthes as open source, but it is driven by Python scripts. In Phrea you build Pastas models with the mouse, on your own measurements, with the map alongside.
- No scripts. Choose a well and Phrea builds the model on your own measurements, with precipitation and evaporation included. No programming.
- The map belongs to it. Model and well are linked to the map in both directions.
- Open, so never locked in. Every model exports to Pastas' own file format, so you can always continue in Python.

Menyanthes and Pastas are named here descriptively. Dawaco is not affiliated with the makers or rights holders of Menyanthes, nor with the Pastas project.
Pumping wells, lab quality and data-holder duties in one system
Around every wellfield sit a monitoring network, a row of pumping wells that slowly clog, and a steady flow of lab results. As the registered data holder, you also deliver to the Dutch Key Register of the Subsurface (BRO) yourself. As long as those tasks live in separate systems, every audit question starts with exporting and comparing.
What Phrea does about it
- Every pumping well in view. See how each pumping well declines over the years and what a regeneration delivers.
- Lab quality next to your levels. Tested against the standards you choose, exceedances at a glance, and nothing from the lab goes missing unnoticed. Module
- What does your abstraction do to the level? Pastas time-series models show which part of the level comes from precipitation, evaporation or your abstraction, and look ahead with an uncertainty band. Module
- Data holder without a second package. Wells, levels and analyses reach the BRO from the same records, checked before they leave. GMW and GLD as standard; GAR with the add-on module.
- Your measurement stays your measurement. Every correction has a reason and can always be undone, so you can show what was measured and what was changed.
- Switching with evidence. First a trial migration from Dawaco GW, Datalab and BROLab with a comparison report, then one planned cutover.
From logger to registry without manual work, and ecology from the same partner
A water board runs many loggers in the field, delivers groundwater levels to the BRO and assesses the ecological status of its surface water at the same time. Every manual step between reading a logger and delivering the data costs time and is a place where errors creep in. And there is often an operational system already in place that is staying.
What Dawaco does about it
- From logger to registry without manual work. Loggers are collected on schedule and checked. A provisional GLD reaches the BRO on time, and a final one after your validation.
- Connect to what you already have. Phrea works with loggers and telemetry services from several suppliers, and an operational system you already run simply keeps running. See the integrations.
- Fieldwork in the same chain. The FieldForm field app, field rounds and logger management, so a manual measurement and a logger series belong to the same tube.
- Ecology from the same partner. Dawaco Ecologie for biology, chemistry, validation, reporting and the Water Framework Directive. Since March 2026 with a new, smart TWN import module: the latest TWN list, without manual work.
- Did you work with Menyanthes? Pastas in Dawaco Phrea™: a complete graphical workspace with the map alongside. From Menyanthes to Phrea. Module
The BRO chain in both directions, including corrections and history
The first delivery is rarely the problem. The work lies in what comes after: a correction to a well that is already registered, a measurement edited after delivery, a history that reads differently in the registry than in your own records.
What Dawaco does about it
- Your database is the source, the BRO the output. Register, deliver and retrieve from your own records. Compare your data with the registry and decide what is right.
- Every correction the BRO allows. Straight from your own records, with the status of every delivery in view.
- You never track by hand what changed after delivery.
- Checked before it leaves. Your well history reaches the BRO the way the BRO expects it.
- BRO delivery as a service. Analysis, a plan of action and execution with a follow-up check, when you would rather hand the delivery over.
GMW and GLD as standard; GMN, GAR and FRD as an add-on module.
Since 2019, when we were part of the BRO implementation team, our team has helped more than 100 data holders with their BRO deliveries. That experience shapes how Phrea works with the registry.
SaaS and a fully managed service for small teams
A municipality keeps a groundwater monitoring network for its groundwater duty of care and for building projects, but rarely has its own hydrologist or an IT department that wants to run a system. The BRO delivery still has to happen.
What Dawaco does about it
- Phrea as SaaS. You work in the browser, without servers of your own. Phrea runs on Microsoft Azure in Europe and your data stays in the EU.
- Fully managed monitoring, from field to registry. We install and read out loggers, validate the measurements and take care of the BRO delivery.
- Support where you need it. If you would rather run the network yourself, we help with the BRO delivery and the helpdesk stays within reach.
- Implementation and training. In five steps: evaluation, design, implementation and training, continuous improvement, and support and advice.
Modelling and analysis on real measurements, import with a safety net
A dewatering scheme, an abstraction, an impact study: the data arrive from clients, loggers and laboratories, each in its own format. The analysis has to be right, and reproducible for whoever reads the report later.
Import with a safety net
Every supplier file comes in safely: you see beforehand what will change, and if it still is not right, you undo it.

Time-series modelling Module
Pastas explains groundwater levels from precipitation, evaporation and abstraction and looks ahead with an uncertainty band, in a complete graphical workspace on your own measurements, not on exports. Also for Pastas models you build with scripts today: the same engine, with a graphical workspace.

Analysis with the AI assistant
Ask in plain language. The answer comes from your own measurements, with charts, maps, cited sources and caveats. The judgement stays with the hydrologist.

Germany: developed together with HydroS Consult, with your data in the EU
Dawaco Phrea is developed by Dawaco B.V. and HydroS Consult GmbH, our partner in Germany.
You choose how it runs: as SaaS on Microsoft Azure in Europe, or on your own server. Your data stays in the EU, and the AI assistant's processing takes place inside the EU too. The AI can be switched on or off per module and per user.
The BRO chain is specific to the Netherlands. For German organisations the relevant part is the rest of the product: monitoring-network management, validation that keeps the raw measurement, lab quality, time-series modelling and the AI assistant.
Six sectors, one product
What a drinking-water company and an engineering consultancy ask of Phrea differs. The foundation is the same: data management, time-series modelling and the AI assistant are not three systems with interfaces between them, but one product. And it runs where you want it: as SaaS or on your own server, with your data in the EU.
Dawaco Phrea succeeds Dawaco GW, Datalab and BROLab and is available from October 2026.
